Haute for the New Year!
January 1, 2006 | 12:00am
It has been a brilliant year for fashion designer Ito Curata. Not only has his gowns been given the thumbs up (his creations for Cheri Gil, Maricel Soriano and Lani Mercado have enabled them to receive the Star of The Night nods in various engagements), he has also been given kudos for the State of the Nation gown worn by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
Curata keeps his clientelle list to a minimum. He insists on cutting every pattern himself and has been known to rework a design obsessively. He mostly uses fabric which he has brought in from California precious yards which he has carefully kept till the day that they would find expression in well-crafted form.
To end the year, Curata shows us how to welcome the new year in style and Uptown/Downtown could not resist the chance to catch the artist at his very best!
