Everything Kean in new single

It is no wonder anymore that rocker Kean Cipriano never gains weight. It is because he seems to be eternally energetic and is always moving around busy with one thing or another.

 Just think. First on the personal side, Kean is husband to actress Chynna Ortaleza and father to little girl Stellar. They are expecting a new addition to the family, a little boy soon.

Professionally, Kean is top man of OC Records. Formed in partnership with the Viva-Vicor Music Group, OC manages the careers and produces the recordings of a line-up of artists led by the talented and controversial Unique, formerly of the band IV of Spades.

Then as an artist, Kean is front man of the famous rock band Callalily with hits like Stars, Pasan and Magbalik. Expect a new album from them soon, said to be a very special one as they are celebrating their 14th anniversary this year. Of course, Kean as vocalist, songwriter and producer is working on the project.

Then, there is Kean Cipriano, the solo artist. Yes, he recently released a new single without the guys of Callalily. This does not mean that he is leaving the band. This is a side project for music he has always wanted to do but he sees as not suitable for Callalily.

Now available online, Kean’s new release is titled Eye Contact and I think it is just the right song to launch a solo career. He is in great form as a singer and songwriter with this one. He is also right. The song is something Callalily is not likely to do.  Fresh, new and more pop than rock, it is a lilting ballad about forbidden love. Kean sings about avoiding “ang mga mata nating nag-uumpugan,” which I think is a romantic and interesting way to describe eye contact.

Eye Contact was composed, produced, performed by Kean and is available on Kean’s OC label. I have a feeling that if I check the credits I will find mentions there like Kean on guitar or Kean on keyboards, etc. etc. The guy is a dynamo and I am glad he is using most of that bursting energy to make music.

Oh, I forgot to mention. He also directs and produces music videos. His latest is Sino, for a song by Unique.

 And now the hits of the moment. This Top 40 list is the latest as of this writing from Spotify. I can title it The Revenge of the Aliens because this is the first time in months when foreign releases are occupying the one, two and three berths.  Interestingly because it is the biggest trend nowadays, all of those three are collabs. So I say, wake up, to our Pinoy guys. I would love very much to see you reclaim those slots with your new songs.
