Edward is mighty proud of First Love

Edward Barber is mighty proud of his acting performance in First Love. Portraying his role got him the chance to be his own actor, meaning, without him solely relying on the allure of a loveteam. Produced by TEN17P together with Star Cinema and Viva Films, First Love has Aga Muhlach and Bea Alonzo in lead roles.

“It was probably the first movie or first project that I really could say that I was proud of what I did,” said Edward as he summed up his acting performance after watching the movie premiere. “Parang umabot na ako sa personal standards ko so ang sarap talaga sa pakiramdam.”

But Edward also admitted he was “very strongly” hesitant about appearing sans Maymay at first “because since Day One (of our career), we’re together. She’s with me in every project. We really went through everything together.”

At one point, he knew they can’t be together all the time, and, he will consider it as part of their career growth. In First Love, Edward was able to discover his ability as an actor, thanks to his supportive co-stars, particularly Aga who also made him comfortable while on the set. The 18-year-old Fil-German actor plays the character Simon who has a special connection to Aga’s Nick.

“To sum it all up, they taught me how to be my own actor. It wasn’t really told to me verbally but Kuya Aga showed me on the set. He has this weird power that you listen to him when he talks. Isa s’ya sa mga teachers na nagtuturo s’ya but he’s not actually teaching you. Sa first day, actually, Kuya Aga came to me and said, ‘Kinakabahan din ako. If you wanna touch me in the scene, touch me. If the action feels right as your character, do it. Don’t be nervous. I’m nervous, too.’”

He further shared, “After the first scene, I didn’t really feel nervous anymore because of Ate Bea (Alonzo) and Kuya Aga as well as direk Paul (Soriano).”

The video message Maymay sent him reportedly boosted his confidence. Did she really say “I love you” at the end of the video? In all honesty, Edward said Maymay just told him to breathe when he feels like freaking out “and she said I miss you.”

Edward feels Maymay is his soul mate, stressing his point that his life seemingly is intertwined to hers. Does he see her as the girl he’ll live for the rest of his life? “Maybe, I don’t know,” he responded with a smile.

Many have been telling that you and Enrique Gil look closely the same. Sa tingin mo, ano ang lamang mo kay Enrique when it comes to looks?

Edward: Probably, the hair and the forehead.

Jovelyn: His dimples. Enrique has no dimples.

Kung di ka artista, ano ang ginagawa mo sa Germany ngayon?

Edward: Probably studying literature.

April: He’s just an ordinary guy in Germany who is studying. He loves reading books.
