Claudio Bravo’s self-portrait

Claudio Bravo was Chilean by birth (Nov. 8, 1936) but he might well be called citizen of the world. He lived and studied all over the globe, his paintings internationally acclaimed. They are displayed in museums and private homes in key cities of the world — New York, Miami, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Madrid, Bilbao, Paris, Hamburg, Cologne, Rotterdom, Monaco, Tangier (Morocco), Santiago (Chile) and Manila.

Tingting de los Reyes-Cojuangco

In 1967, President Marcos and the First Lady, Imelda Marcos, invited Bravo to paint them and members of the ‘alta sociedad.’ He spent six months here doing portraits and traveling all over the country. He found the quality of light in Manila more intense than in Spain or Chile and it transformed in his paintings (portrait, still life, lithography, drawing).

He had a solo exhibit at the Luz Gallery.

Of all the places where he lived, Claudio Bravo was most at home in Morocco, where he died on June 4, 2011.
