Truck N’ Trail, RW Freight off to flying starts  in Lycans hoop

CEBU, Philippines — The Truck N’ Trail (TNT) and RW Freight got off to the best possible starts they could in the inaugural season of the Lycans Basketball League (LBL), whick kicked off last Thursday night at the Villas Magallanes Gym in Barangay Basak, Lapu-Lapu City.

Jeric Gonzaga sank six 3-pointers of his 34-point explosion laced with four rebounds and one steal to power Truck N’ Trail to a 154-123 thrashing of the Aquilla squad in their high-scoring match that provided fireworks in the league’s season-opener.

Gonzaga drew huge support from Barok Ceniza and John Velasco who unloaded 25 points each for TNT.

James Villafuerte tallied 31 markers , Jong Garcia scored 28 while Jhamer Ranceli tossed in 20 points but their efforts went for naught for Aquilla.

In the other game, Joseph Cabahug scattered 16 points, eight rebounds and three assists as RW Freight overcame the gritty Joher side, 86-81.

The newly-formed friendly league is organized by businessman-sportsman Dondon Aropo of Truck N’ Trail Transport Services.

It follows a double round format in the elimination. The top two qualifiers will enjoy twice-to-beat advantage over the No.3 and No.4 teams in the crossover semifinals. The winners will then clash for the championship in a best-of-three series. — EBV
