CEBU, Philippines —  The RonBucz-A ballers trounced Future Basketball Academy (FBA), 85-69, in their lopsided final match to emerge as Division 1 champion of the Cebu Youth Basketball League (CYBL) Under 16 Summer Showcase presented by the MVP Sports Foundation recently at the Cebu City Sports Institute.

Know The Culture MVP Khian Panerio showed the way for RonBucz with 18 points and five assists. He was ably backed up by Kenneth Cole with 14 points and John Louie Bual, who scattered with 13 points, seven rebounds, five assists and three steals in a splendid display of hardcourt versatility.

Panerio and Cole also made it to the Mythical Five together with Chedreyc Benitez of FBA, Alden Cainglet of CHBC-Juniors, and Jireh Caro of A1.

RonBucz, coached by former University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers star guard Ronald Bucao, forced FBA to a mind-boggling 33 turnovers which they wisely converted into 42 points that largely contributed to their rousing victory.

RonBucz, composed of reigning Best Center SBP national champion UV, sprinted to a sizzling 19-10 start with Panerio, Kent Castro, and John Louie Bual leading the charge.

FBA rallied back in the second period behind the efforts of Louiegee de los Angeles and Jances Anacta but Cole and Jhunrel Dagatan put their acts together to help RonBucz maintain a double-digit lead at halftime, 38-28.

Energized after the short break, RonBucz ripped the game apart in the third period where it launched a devastating 30-17 attack courtesy of Panerio, Bual and big man Benedict Paca to surge ahead by 24 points on one occasion.

It was an all-RonBucz show the rest of the way.

Anacta led FBA with 15 points while De los Angeles scored 13 in a losing effort.

In the battle for third place, Cainglet exploded for 25 points on top of eight rebounds to power the CHBC-Juniors to an 83-78 triumph over the A1 squad. He was supported by the “Bull from Bantayan” Jelomar Rota with 17 points, 16 rebounds and three blocks.

Mikyle Legarde cashed in 14 points and 11 rebounds for A1 but Caro was held off to a measly two points on a 1-of-8 shooting from the field. — EBV
