ARQ Builders, Deon Motors start strong in Mayor Mike Rama hoopla

CEBU, Philippines —  The ARQ Builders and Deon Motors got off to flying starts in the 1st Mayor Michael L. Rama Basketball Invitational League 2022 last Friday night at the Cebu City Sports Institute in Barangay Sawang Calero.

Emman Calo and Rino Berame masterminded a decisive endgame assault as the ARQ Builders turned back Fighter Fifty, 94-86.

ARQ trailed in the early goings before fighting its way back to seize a hairline lead after three quarters, 68-67.

Calo and Berame then took matters into their own hands in the final period, combining for 19 points in ARQ’s game-closing 26-19 rally.

Calo dished out a solid double-double show of 20 points and 10 rebounds laced with three assists while Berame  added 14 points on top four boards for the ARQ Builders.

The ageless Jojo Tangkay also figured prominently, tossing in 13 of his 16 points in the the second canto that helped the ARQ Builders forge a 45-all deadlock at halftime. He also pulled down four rebounds and passed away five assists.

Former CESAFI MVPs Jaybie Mantilla and Shaq Imperial tallied 17 markers in between them while Rendell Senining, Fletcher Galvez, and John Abad connived for 22 points undercoring ARQ’s balanced attack.

Paul Galinato paced Fighter Fifty with 18 points followed by Elmer Echavez with 17 points. Eliud Poligrates and Nat Cruz each scored 11 while Alfe Amarante had 10 points in a losing effort.

In the other game, Enrico Llanto muscled his way to 18 points on top og eight rebounds to power Deon Motors to a 74-68 triumph over Truck N’ Trail Transport Services.

Llanto was ably backed up by Kenny Rogers Rocacurva and Luigi Gabisan with 11 points each. — EBV
