PSL gears up for bigger U21 tourney this June

Emmanuel B. Villaruel - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  Driven by the huge success of its Aspirants Division, the Pilipinas Super League (PSL)  gears up for a better and bigger Under 21 cage wars next month.

“Malampuson kaayo ang una natong Under 21 tournament. Daghan ta’g natabangan nga mga players ilabi na sa paghatag kanila og platform aron mapakita ang ilang abilidad ug aron sila mailhan,”said PSL U21 program director Chelito “Chakang” Caro.

“Nindot kaayo ni nga programa mao nang amo gyud ning ipadayon. In fact, padak-on ug panindoton pa namo ang umaabot namong liga this June,” added Caro, who is also the deputy commissioner of PSL’s pro division.

Unlike in the Invitational Cup, Caro said they will be holding separate legs for Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao teams leading to the national championship in their second conference tentatively set to start on June 18.

Caro said four teams have already signified their intent to see action in the Visayas leg bannered by the Consolacion Sarok Weavers, who reigned supreme in the inaugural PSL Under 21 Aspirants Division Invitational Cup last month in Roxas, Zamboanga del Norte.

The others are the ARQ Builders Lapu-Lapu City Chiefs, Sherilin-Mandaue City, and LGU San Fernando.

Caro bared that talks are now in progress for Talisay City and Bohol Province to field in entries in PSL.

“If maabot ta og unom ka teams, dinhi nato duwaon sa Cebu ang Visayas leg,” Caro said. “The Visayas champion will then face the champions in Mindanao and Luzon sa atong national finals.”
