CEBU, Philippines —  It’s all systems go for the #BangonCebu boxing show of Gerrypens Promotions behind closed doors on Monday, January 24, at the Don Celestino Martinez Sr. Sports and Cultural Center in Bogo City, north of Cebu.

This was confirmed by event promoter Gerry Peñalosa after getting clearance from the Games and Amusements Board (GAB) and host LGU Bogo under the leadership of mayor Carlo Martinez to hold the five-bout fight card without fans under strict health and safety protocols.

“Ato gyud gipaningkamotan ug gipangitaan og paagi nga madayon ang atong promosyon kay luoy tawon kaayo ang mga boxers rong panahona. Maayo na lang tungod ini naa silay gamay nga income nga ilang gikinahanglan aron makatabang sa ilang pamilya ning higayona,” said Peñalosa, a former two-division world champion.

Peñalosa extended his profound gratitude to Cebuano businessman/sportsman Lorenzo “Chao” Sy and Bogo Mayor Carlo Martinez for their full support in his noble endeavor.

“Dako kaayo ko og pasalamat nila ni boss Chao Sy ug mayor Martinez kay tungod sa ilang suporta nahimong posible kining atong kalihukan,” Peñalosa added.

The undefeated super featherweight prospect Criztian Pitt “Golden Boy” Laurente of General Santos City  will headline the #BangonCebu ring extravaganza.

The 22-year-old Laurente (8-0, 5KOs), who is coming off back-to-back knockout wins over Kim Lindog and Ernie Sanchez, will take on Vicente Casido (6-3-1, 2KOs) of Dumaguete City in his first televised fight via ONE Sports.

Aside from Laurente, three other Peñalosa Gym fighters will also be seeing action in Jhon Mark Tihuk (5-1-2, 1KO), Kenneth Llover (3-0, 3KOs), and Noli James Maquilan.

Tihuk will go up against GenSan’s Jeffrey Stella, while Llover and Maquilan will lock up horns with Jimpol Dignos and Rollie Dorong, respectively, both of Cebu’s EMT Gym.

In the preliminary match, Reycar Auxilio of Big Yellow Gym will slug it out with Carlos Agustin of Compostela, Cebu.
