Sanman boss not keen on pitting Bornea vs IBF champ Ancajas

CEBU, Philippines — The undefeated Filipino super flyweight prospect Jade "Hurricane" Bornea scored the biggest win yet in his career via a stunning third-round knockout of Moroccan-Italian Mohammed Obbadi in their IBF eliminator over the weekend at Arena Jose Sulaiman in Monterrey, Mexico.

Bornea, fighting out of Sanman Gym based in General Santos City, landed a crushing left uppercut to the rib cage that sent Obbadi down on both knees in delayed reaction. The IBF No.3 contender failed to beat the count, prompting the referee to wave off the bout at the 1:25 mark of round three.

“I promised my team and my countrymen that I will take win in an exciting fashion. And thank God I did. It was a great game plan and I sticked to it. Obbadi was strong but I can handle his shots. I was waiting for a perfect opening and I found it in the third round. He has a good chin but I sensed I could hurt him more with a body shot. I look forward for a title shot soon," said Bornea.

Aside from stretching his perfect record to 17-0 now laced with 11KOs, the 26-year-old Bornea also earned a mandatory shot at the IBF super flyweight title currently held by his countryman Jerwin "Prerry Boy" Ancajas.

An all-Pinoy world championship bout is not imminent though as Sanman CEO Jim Claude "JC" Manangquil, Bornea's promoter and manager, is not eager on pitting Bornea against Ancajas, who is being handled by MP Promotions.

“Now that Jade is in the prime spot at the rankings, it will be easier to look for bigger fights for him. We will take our time. We will sit down and discuss the options," Manangquil said.-- EBV
