Cabibil, Cablao top CEPCA weekly tourney
CEBU, Philippines — Antonio Cabibil and Edwin Cablao topped the most latest edition of the Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association’s weekly online tournament played via lichess platform.
The 55-year-old Cabibil, a former varsity player of Southwestern University (SWU) who was hailed as “Cebu Blitz King” twice in 1995 and 2007, lorded it over the All-Cepcans category with 7.0 points.
Erstwhile CEPCA grand champion Jimmy Ty, Jr. wound up at solo second with 6.5 points.
National Master Rogelio Enriquez Jr., Jasper Norman Montejo, and NM Jasper Rom made up the top five with 6.0 points each, while Aaron James Melendez landed at sixth with 5.0 points.
Cablao, on the other hand, bagged the top spot in the Cepcans B/Ladies division by just a hairline over Maria Kristine Lavandero.
Cablao finished with 31 points, only a matchstick ahead of Lavandero who settled for second place honors.
A doctor of education, the 53-year-old Cablao is presently the principal of Bulacao Community School.
Rounding up the top five finishers were Dr. Leo Lofranco (25 pts.) Nicanor Cuizon (24 pts.), and Aaron James Melendez (23 pts.) — EBV
