The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  National Master Rogelio Enriquez Jr. and Dr. Leo Lofranco made up the latest set of top winners in the Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association’s Prexy Jerry and Chito Arki Blitz Series #4 recently.

Enriquez, a chess varsity player of the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) during his college days, was actually tied with fellow NM Jasper Rom with 7.5 points each at the end of the 9-round Swiss system competition.

But Enriquez, who currently plays for the Toledo City Trojans in the Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP), grabbed the All-Cepcans title by virtue of a higher tie-break output.

Rom placed second followed by Kristina Belano and Jimmy Ty Jr. at third and fourth with 6.5 points apiece. Antonio Cabibil and Eden Diano occupied the fifth and sixth spots with 6.0 and 5.5 points, respectively.

On the other hand, the 65-year-old Lofranco lorded it over the Cepcans B/Ladies division with 25 points.

Sheila Khan Sepanton was behind Lofranco by just a hairline with 24 points, while Dr. Edwin Cablao and Reynaldo Flores settled for third and fourth with identical 23 points. Norman Martin Olayvar completed the top five with 22 points.

Now on its fourth installment, the twin events were made possible through the support of CEPCA President Engr. Jerry Maratas and Archt. Filemon Kapuno III — EBV
