Cebu to play a big role in PBBM’s government

CEBU, Philippines —  President-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. will formally assume office at noon today as the country’s 17th president.

As he begins his six-year term, PBBM admitted that Cebu will play a big role in his administration being the number one province in the country and having the most active economic activity.

The new president lauded Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia for her leadership and trailblazing policies at the height of the pandemic.

"I think a lot of that has to do with the policies of the governor during the lockdown during the pandemic kasi hindi nawala ang economic activity dito kaya parang ahead kayo nga kunti sa ibang probinsya and so that's why we will be looking to continuing to make Cebu the leader when it comes to what we call the economic transformation," Marcos said at the sideline of the said event.

PBBM attended Garcia’s oathtaking on Tuesday at the Marco Polo Hotel in Cebu City. He was joined by Vice President-elect Sara Duterte-Carpio.

Marcos thanked Garcia and the Cebuanos for his landslide victory where Cebu delivered 1.5 million votes for him in the last May 9 elections.  Garcia said she will be in Manila today to attend the president’s inauguration.

“Yes I will be attending. I would also wish to return the favor that they extended to us,” Garcia said.

According to Garcia, her daughter, Liloan Mayor Christina Garcia-Frasco, will also take her oath as the next secretary of the Department of Tourism.

“I believe that that would also be the oathtaking day for my daughter Christina, so I would like to be present also for both historic events for the Philippines and for Cebu,” the governor said. — FPL (FREEMAN)
