CEBU, Philippines —  The Cebu City Police Office has vowed to continue constant inspections and monitoring of gasoline stations in the city after some pump calibrations were found to be defective.

“No deadline, it’s up to them,” said CCPO deputy director for administration, Police Lieutenant Colonel Wilbert Parilla, in a press conference Friday morning.

It was reported that 14 fuel pumps of three gasoline stations had been temporarily locked after CCPO conducted an inspections on gasoline stations around the city.

“Kung when nila i-comply kay dili man sad magamit ang pump. It can be opened once mainsakto ang calibration sa pump and they have already explained together with the payment nga P1,000 per pump sa atoang city treasurer’s office,” Parilla said.

Parilla explained that it is the City Treasurer’s Office to impose the penalty based on the existing city ordinance.

“Ang makahatag pod og sanction ang City Council, it is up to them unsa ang maayong penalty. Wala pod problema sa mga dagko nga gasoline stations kay naa silay ilahang inspections. Constant gyud ilang checking sa calibration sa pumps,” Parilla added.

The inspection on gasoline stations is a joint activity with the CCPO and other agencies of the city government directed by Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama, an initiative of the mayor to ensure the motorists will get the right fuel at the right price they paid.

“Panawagan sa management to make it sure nga insakto sa calibration ang ilahang mga pumps considering sa kamahal sa presyo, aron dili maalkansi og maayo atong consumer kay medyo sakit sakit gyud ang presyo sa gasolina ug krudo,” he said.

As of this writing, the CCPO has not yet received results on the inspection of defective calibration on gasoline station fuel pumps in the northern part of the city. — Dominic I. Dilao, Correspondent and Chiel Martina Y. Condor, CNU Intern, GMR (FREEMAN)
