CEBU, Philippines — After a series of fuel price increases, Cebu Fifth District Representative Vincent Franco “Duke” Frasco has shelled out personal funds and given away free gasoline to motorcycle and tricycle drivers in Mandaue City.

“Cong. Duke Frasco, from his personal funds, is giving away a full tank of gas or up to 500 pesos worth per motorcycle with drivers here at the Shell Station, Barangay Basak, Mandaue City,” reads the post from Frasco’s official Facebook page on June 23, 2022.

During that day, the lawmaker gave away gasoline worth P100,000 in total for the motorcycle and tricycle drivers.

Weeks before the May 9, 2022 elections, Frasco had also given free gasoline to his constituents in Liloan, Compostela and in Danao City to help motorcycle and tricycle drivers cope with the fuel price hike.

Almost every week another round of fuel hike is being implemented by the oil firms.

The continuing rise of fuel prices has caused burden to the motorists especially to the public utility vehicle (PUV) operators and drivers.

As a result, some of the PUV drivers decided not to ply to their usual routes.

In Cebu City, to help the motorists especially the drivers, the city government has extended the validity of its fuel discount cards given to the driver beneficiaries.

The said project benefited thousands of PUV drivers who avail at least P2 discount per liter of fuel. — GMR (FREEMAN)
