City poll workers to get pay by next week

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The honoraria for poll workers in the 2022 National and Local Elections will be released by batch starting May 24.

These exclude the promised increase, said Cebu City South District Election Officer Marilou Paredes.

It was announced that the honorarium/allowances will be released starting Monday but Paredes said they still have to prepare the payroll.

Since there are thousands of teachers and non-teaching personnel involved in the North and South Districts, the release of the allowances will be by schedule.

“Among i-by barangays, mag-scheduling mi kay dili lalim kay dako-dako baya ni atong city, among gi-scheduling, ang first namo tagaan is ang Electoral Board, Department of Education Supervisor Official (DESO), ug and DESO technical support staff,” said Paredes.

The amount to be received by those who served during the election will be based on their respective tasks.

The chairman of the board, for example, gets P10,000 while poll clerks and third members get P9,000 each while others get either P7,000 down to P5,000.

The DepEd Cebu City Division is hoping for an increase of at least P3,000 for their allowances but Paredes said they are yet to receive orders and guidelines in this regard.

The Commission on Elections in Cebu City estimates that within seven days they will complete the distribution of allowances to more than 4,000 teachers who served in the May 9, 2022 National and Local Elections. — Decemay P. Padilla, GMR (FREEMAN)
