Sanden J. Anadia - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Up to 68 of Cebu City’s 80 barangays or 85% have reported zero COVID-19 transmission over the last 14 days, the Emergency Operations Center said.

The 12 remaining barangays with transmission are as follows: Basak Pardo, Mabolo,Tisa, Camputhaw, Guadalupe, Luz, Babag, Capitol Site, Inayawan, Kinasang-an Pardo, Lorega-San Miguel, and Quiot .

Along with this, EOC deputy chief implementer City Councilor Joel Garganera also pointed out that the positivity rate in the city has dropped. Of the 670 tested recently, only one actually turned out positive, giving a 0.15% positivity rate.

As of yesterday, EOC data showed only 27 active cases of coronavirus in the city.

Most of these cases are under home isolation.

In fact, there are no COVID-19 patients being housed at the Moses Isolation Facility (MIF), formerly known as the Cebu City Quarantine Center, according to the manager of the facility, Councilor Jocelyn Pesquera.

Pesquera said this indicates that the cases have been declining significantly, which serves as a big boost in the government's campaign to fight the disease.

But Pesquera pointed out that although the MIF has no patients, it continues to be prepared for any eventuality.

More than 40 personnel are assigned at the MIF. They consist of four doctors, nine nurses, security, admin staff, ambulance crew, and more.

The Cebu City Health Department is also sending medicines for the facility.

It can accommodate up to 200 patience and can be augmented with hospital tents of the Philippine Red Cross (PRC).

The Cebu City government allotted P17 million for the operations of the facility.

Despite the encouraging numbers, government officials continue to urge people to remain compliant with safety protocols. – JMD (FREEMAN)
