P1.6 million shabu seized from 5 suspects

CEBU, Philippines —  At least P1.6 million worth of illegal drugs were seized from five suspects arrested in three different buy-bust operations conducted by the authorities in Cebu.

In Talisay City, police arrested two high-value individuals in a separate buy-bust operation on Saturday.

At around 10:48 p.m., the authorities conducted the operation at Sitio Salvador, Barangay Tangke, Talisay City which resulted in the arrest of Kharyl Cabando, a high-value individual, 26, a resident of the said place.

The police seized from her possession at least P340,000 worth of illegal drugs.

Lt. Colonel Randy Caballes, chief of Talisay City Police Station, said the suspect has been involved in illegal drug trading since October last year.

"Her area of operation is at Brgy. Tangke, Talisay City, Cebu," said Caballes.

He added, Cabando could dispose of up to 50 grams of illegal drugs per week, the source of which came from a certain "Mateo" from the city jail.

Further, an electronic bike driver was arrested by the same station in Barangay Cansojong at around midnight of the same day.

Caballes identified the arrested suspect as Junjie Cabuenas, 26, another high-value individual in terms of illegal trading.

Seized from him were at least P544,000 worth of illegal drugs.

According to Caballes, the suspect was arrested last August 2019 with the same offense and was released from jail last November 2020.

Just like Cabando, Cabuenas' source of transaction was from an inmate inside the city jail.

Meanwhile, the Carcar City police also arrested two high-value individuals in an operation in Barangay Bolinawan at around 5:15 p.m. on the same day.

The police identified the arrested suspects as Marvin Larumbe, 44, and Airelyn Tejeo, 41, whose names were included in the watchlist.

Seized from the suspects were P221,000 worth of suspected shabu.

Meanwhile, a 19-year-old drug suspect was arrested by the drug enforcement unit of Mambaling Police Station in Cebu City.

Recovered from the suspect was 76 grams of shabu worth P516,800 during a buy-bust operation in Sitio Naba, Barangay Mambaling, Cebu City on Saturday afternoon.

Police identified the suspect as Levi Abucay Planas. — GMR (FREEMAN)
