Mayor Cortes gets COVID-19 anew

CEBU, Philippines — For the second time around, Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes has contracted with COVID-19 virus.

“Mga kaigsoonan kong Mandauehanon, kaganihang hapon, nigawas ang resulta nga nagpositibo ko sa COVID-19. Dili gyud ni malikayan labi na sa klase sa atong trabaho,” said the mayor in his Facebook post the other day.

Because of this, the mayor said he is under mandatory isolation.

“Apan padayon gihapon ko nga mag-monitor sa dagan sa dakbayan bisan pa man nga na isolate ko kay nagpabilin nga mild ra akong mga symtomas tungod kay kumpleto man ko sa bakuna,” said Cortes who was first contracted the virus on April 5, 2021.

The mayor said that it is very clear that COVID-19 cases raised exponentially as we are in the midst of Omicron variant.

Data from the Department of Health-7 showed that Mandaue City has 13 active cases on January 1, 2022 and as of January 21, active cases are 1,214 already.

“Apan masaligon ko nga maka haw-as ra ta niini kay usa ang atong dakbayan sa Mandaue sa naay taas nga vaccination rate sa kabisay-an,” the mayor added.

Data from the Visayas COVID-19 Vaccination Operations Center, as of January 20, 2022, Mandaue City has administered a total of 588,139 doses wherein 78.53 percent or 265,848 were already fully vaccinated while 91.39 or 309,412 received the first dose.

Data show that among the Metro Cebu local government units, Mandaue City has the highest rate of fully vaccinated individuals.

The mayor added that those residents who have COVID-19 symptoms, the Mandaue Teleconsult is still available and such services are free.

“Anaa pud atong libre nga RT-PCR test sa mga buot magpa swab test,” he added.

The mayor further said that the city government continues to conduct vaccination for the first dose, second dose and booster doses in order to have more people who will be inoculated. — GMR (FREEMAN)
