Go: Visayas Media Hub to boost information access

Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  Senator Christopher “Bong” Go expressed support for the Presidential Communications Operations Office’s initiative for the construction of the Visayas Media Hub that will be located in Barangay Subangdaku, Mandaue City, Cebu.

The senator, who was instrumental in pushing for the allocation of P300 million in the 2022 national budget for the construction of the hub, emphasized the crucial role of government to continue improving access to information across the country, especially outside Metro Manila.

Another P300 million budget was included in the PCOO’s 2022 budget for the various equipment needed for the operations of the state-of-the-art media facility that will boost the capacity of government media in Visayas.

Go also stressed the importance of empowering communities by enabling public access to vital information towards nation-building.

“Mula TV, print, radio, online, sisiguraduhin nating maiparating ng gobyerno ang tamang impormasyon at makabuluhang balita sa mga komunidad na kailangan upang maging mas ligtas at maginhawa ang buhay ng mga Pilipino tulad ng ipinangako ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte,” Go said in a statement.

Andanar earlier said that the PCOO will be the one to manage and maintain the hub that will serve as the main broadcast for Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, and Western Visayas.

The hub will also house other PCOO attached agencies such as the Philippine Broadcasting Service (PBS), Philippine Information Agency (PIA), Philippine News Agency (PNA), and Radio Television Malacañang (RTVM).

The People’s Television Inc. (PTV), the flagship state broadcaster, will also serve as one of the locators of the project.

The four-story media hub will have broadcast complex, two TV studios and optional radio booths, automated master control system, transmitter and satellite uplink system, TV broadcast IT system, news graphics system, digital transmitters, and others. — KQD (FREEMAN)
