CEBU, Philippines — To give time for its natural recovery from the onslaught of Typhoon Odette, the famous marine park in Moalboal is temporarily closed to the public.

The Pescador Island, situated in the west coast of Cebu, has been closed after it was also affected by Typhoon Odette last December 16, 2021.

"Due to the severity of the typhoon's destruction, the corals and other marine life at Pescador island were badly destroyed which will take time for the reefs to recover and rehabilitate," reads the resolution approved by the Sangguniang Bayan of Moalboal.

The resolution was signed and approved by Mayor Paz Rozgoni.

While it is temporarily closed, diving, snorkeling, island hopping and other water activities in the island is prohibited.

"Imposing a 'No Diving and No Snokeling Area' at Pescador Island for a period of three months will provide the best opportunity for the reef ecosystem to start its recovery," reads part of the resolution.
