CEBU, Philippines —   At least four families were affected by a fire that hit a residential area in Barangay Kamputhaw, Cebu City on Wednesday noon.

The fire alarm was received by the Cebu City Fire Office (CCFO) at 12:04 yesterday noon.

After, it was raised to first alarm and was declared under control at 12:14. It was officially put off at 12:17 p.m.

The estimated damage was pegged at around P108,000 after the fire razed 72 square meters of residential area.

Three houses were partially burned.

Investigator on the case, SFO1 Riza Julve, said that they initially received information that the fire started from the house of a certain Crisanto Amodia.

"Tulo sila ka balay, puro ra taas ang affected... families ni sila, murag ancestral nila,” said Julve.

Julve added that they are looking at a nearby contruction works, particularly welding works, as a possible cause of the fire, but this is still subject to further investigation.

"Naa naman sad ni silay kuryente so possible (welding). kini say tan-awon namo," said Julve.

To note, a series of fire incidents has been recorded in the city after the onslaught of Typhoon Odette.

Fire investigators said that the situation — no available power — has prompted many households to resort to traditional modes of illuminating their homes, such as candles and makeshift lamps.

CCFO has already reminded the public to double check the electrical wirings as the Visayan Electric has continued to work to restore the power supply in the city.

Two recent fires were believed to be because of damaged electrical wirings which blasted after the power was restored.

"Kay usually, pagkabalik sa kuryente, naay mga damage sa mga wires, I don't know if nagpa-check ba sila ana or ila ra ng gi-take for granted ba, kay during the typhoon man gud, naay possibility nga na-damage to ang wires," CFFO previously said. — KQD (FREEMAN)
