CEBU, Philippines —  A tricycle driver and his passenger died while another one was injured after the tricycle they were riding rammed a passenger mini bus traveling in the opposite direction along national highway, Barangay Dawis Norte, Carmen town, northern Cebu at around 6:50 a.m. yesterday,

The fatalities were identified as Daniel Enoy, 52, tricycle driver, and his passenger Maria Elizabeth Guinita, 73. The other passenger, who sustained injuries was a certain “Thelma.”

The bus, on the other hand, was driven by a certain Ajie Fetalvero, 43, a native of Batiano, Odiongan, Romblon.

Police Lt. Jose Dante Talandron, Carmen Police Station chief, said initial investigation revealed that the bus was traveling to Cebu City while the tricycle was traveling in the opposite direction, going to north.

“Pag-abot sa nahitaboan, kaning tricycle kalit lang ni siya ni-left turn. Unya duol na ang (bus), few meters nalang ang distansya, so naigo ni siya aning mini bus,” said Talandron.

Accordingly, the driver of the mini bus was able to step on the brake but to no avail as the tricycle had already crashed onto it.

Enoy and Guinita were still rushed to the hospital but were declared dead on arrival.

Talandron said that the victims died due to the multiple injuries they sustained.

“Daghan kaayog dugo didto sa crime scene,” said Talandron.

As of this writing, the driver of the mini bus is in the custody of the Carmen police.

Talandron said the driver told the police that the bus was travelling on a slow speed but that he was caught off guard when the tricycle driver took a turn.

“Dili gyud na siya traffic dirang dapita kung asa nahitabo,” said Talandron.

Should the family of those who died pursue charges, the bus driver is expected to face reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide and damage to property.
