CEBU, Philippines —  Preparations for the 2022 Sinulog Festival in Cebu City are now underway.

Based on its initial discussion, Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama said next year’s Sinulog will be a combination of virtual and physical events described as “lightly orthodox, unconventional, innovative and enhanced”.

“As far as I’m concerned, there must be. Last year naa man tay Sinulog gihapon. The other year then before naa may Sinulog, the more gyud ta nga naay Sinulog karon…We will have Sinulog, it's just a matter of what is the concept, what is the style, what is the so-called what I call it contemplated features, mao na siya. Definitely, there shall be Sinulog,” Rama said.

Rama emphasized that vaccination coverage in the City will be a key factor to be considered in how next year’s Sinulog will go. With that, the City’s vaccination efforts continue.

This year, the supposed bubble-type Sinulog showdown was canceled after the Inter-Agency Task Force did not give a nod to fear it could be a super-spreader event of COVID-19 and vaccines were still unavailable in the country at that time.

However, there was a virtual presentation of participants this year. This showcased the best of the best from 1982 to 2020.

Aside from the showdown, more importantly, the said festivity also included a novena masses.

Some modifications in the conduct of masses are also expected to take place next year. — Decemay P. Padilla, GMR (FREEMAN)
