Gwen says Cebu Province mayors can make own 'kalag-kalag' rules

CEBU, Philippines —  Local chief executives (LCEs) in Cebu province are given the discretion to impose protocols and guidelines in line with this year's "Kalag-Kalag" (Undas).

Cebu Governor Gwendolyn “Gwen” Garcia said she has given the full discretion to the mayors as to the regulations for the All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day.

Cebu has 44 towns and six component cities.

The governor said she will not issue an across-the-board memorandum on “Kalag-Kalag.”

“Because our LGUs (local government units) and their respective cemeteries are not similarly situated. So, I will leave it to the judgment and wisdom of our local chief executives.”

“So our mayors will determine what proper measures or protocols to be followed with regard to kalag-kalag” Garcia said.

Several LGUs in Cebu, such as Consolacion town, have already made announcements regarding their plans for Kalag-Kalag.

Consolacion, in a Facebook post, said all cemeteries in the town will be closed from October 30 to November 4, 2021.

But Consolacion will schedule cemetery visits per barangay from October 25 to 29 and November 5 to 10. — KQD (FREEMAN)
