Businessman eyes mayoralty seat in Minglanilla
Francis Gerard “Jigger” Cañedo has made the statement after months of being floated as a possible rival of Councilor Rajiv Enad, who earlier declared his intention to run for mayor.

CEBU, Philippines —  A businessman is eyeing the mayoralty post in Minglanilla town in the May 9, 2022 elections.

Francis Gerard “Jigger” Cañedo has made the statement after months of being floated as a possible rival of Councilor Rajiv Enad, who earlier declared his intention to run for mayor.

Cañedo said his decision is a big sacrifice to his position in a private construction firm.

Cañedo came from a political clan being a relative of the Selmas, including Talisay City Mayor Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas.

“I had never the interest to go in. Pero sa kadaghan nako nga nadunggan about sa pamalakad sa gobyerno dili sab maayo nga pasagdan nalang sila,” he said.

He said he has been hearing some negative feedbacks on how the municipal government is being managed though he has no plan to take legal action against the present officials.

Cañedo believes that Minglanilla needs a leader who has a vision for the development of the municipality.

“We have to change the system. Naay gamay nga problema pwerteng dugaya sa solusyon. Atong style is to bring the style of corporate sold. Pro-active governance atong gusto. Minglanilla needs a leader who knows to troubleshoot,” he said.

Former vice mayor Jojo Selma is named as Cañedo’s runningmate against the tandem of Enad and incumbent Mayor Elanito Peña.

Cañedo said he has no problem with Gullas supporting Enad ang Peña.

He is hoping that the people of Minglanilla will listen to his plan and look at his style of management. — Banat News, GMR (FREEMAN)
