CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu Provincial Hospital in Danao City has opened a new laboratory and radiology department to improve its services.

Around P14 million worth of medical equipment such as digital radiography, electrocardiogram machine, ultrasound machine were installed in the facility which was funded through the Health Facilities Enhancement Program (HFEP) of the Department of Health.

 Dr. Mary Ann Josephine Arsenal, CPH-Danao chief, said the new facility would benefit not just the residents of Danao City but also those from neighboring towns in the fifth district.

“This upgrading would mean a lot for the people of fifth district and the neighboring areas, it would mean fewer expenses for them and a lot from medical attention,” she said during the ceremonial opening on September 23, 2021.

The newly opened radiology and laboratory departments are expected to improve the medical capability of the provincial-run hospital. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Area 70 also donated 38 hospital beds with mattresses, bed side table, IV stand and overhead table to the said hospital.

Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia led the turn over ceremony. It was attended by Integrated Provincial Health Office chief Dr. Cristina Giango, DOH-7 Assistant Director Dr. Guy Perez, Prime Care Cebu Chief Executive Officer Dr. Peter James Aznar and Cebu Provincial Police Office Director Engelbert Soriano.

 Fifth District Rep. Vincent Duke Frasco said he already filed a bill before the House of Representatives seeking to upgrade the CPH-Danao from being a level 1 to level 2 hospital.

“It was actually already passed to the committee level now it will proceed to the plenary and hopefully before the end of this session ma pass na gyud to sya,” he said.

He added that another bill he filed in Congress was for the establishment of a children’s hospital in Liloan town. — FPL (FREEMAN)
