Sharon Cuneta speaks up on ‘difficult’ VP race

STAR CIRCUIT - Ricky Calderon - The Freeman

We wouldn’t want to be in Sharon Cuneta’s shoes at this point. We feel the Megastar’s predicament because two people very close to her heart are pitted against each other in next year’s elections – her uncle Tito Sotto (husband of Helen Gamboa) and her husband Sen. Kiko Pangilinan.

Sharing her thoughts on her Instagram account, Sharon said, “I come home with a happy, but heavy heart. Two men I greatly love – one whom I have known since birth, and the other, one I exchanged solemn vows with 25 years ago, are about to vie for the second highest position in the country, and once again, I don’t know what I could have done so wrong to find myself in the midst of two rocks.”

“What could I, can do? I pray that after this game called politics is over, that wounds are healed, loved ones do not doubt your love for them, and my sisters, especially, the only family I have left beside my own, find our way back to one another’s arms, unscathed and free of the pain our battle scars have brought us. It is most difficult for us in the periphery, who never imagined we would be in this position. May God bless us all. May God help me through this trying period. Please pray for all of us.”

Politics sometimes cause division and misunderstanding in families because of opposing views even if they don’t want it to happen. And Sharon and her family is not spared from it. But just like what she said, when the smoke clears, you hope that the family you love and cherish is still there and will not leave you when you need them most.

Although there is a strong clamor for her to run for the senate or even as vice president, Cong. Vilma Santos-Recto decided to take a break from politics for the meantime.

The Star for All Seasons said she is quitting politics to heed the desire of her fans to make movies and activate her acting career.

Compared to other senatorial aspirants, we would have been happier had Ate Vi decided to seek a senate seat. She is more qualified and experienced compared to those who filed their COCs.

We believe that one reason Ate Vi decided not to run for a higher post is the rigors of going through a national campaign with the Covid-19 virus still very much in our midst. Surely, Ate Vi would not want to put her safety at risk.

Award-winning actor Roderick Paulate is running for councilor anew in the second district of Quezon City. After concentrating on his acting career the last three years, Kuya Dick is making a comeback as a council member.

“If you are used to providing help and service to the public, you will miss it,” said Kuya Dick in a recent chat. He’d like to touch base again with his constituents in the second district just like before.

He was a three-term councilor, who became chairman of the Committee on Tourism and chairman of the Civil Service, Appointments and Reorganization. Under his watch, a good number of contractual employees gained regular status. He was also third assistant Majority Floor Leader, and in 2016 became President Pro Tempore.

Fans of Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla have threatened to boycott and withdraw their support of the tandem.

This stemmed from the decision of Karla Estrada (Daniel’s mom) to accept the offer of Tingog partylist to be its third nominee.

Tingog, which has Rep. Yedda Romualdez as representative, voted to deny the franchise of ABS-CBN.

KathNiel fans said that as long as their idols won’t distance themselves from the decision of Karla, they will boycott them.

The fans, who belong to the group MMXI, also felt bad because they were asked to repost the stickers of Karla, not knowing it had something to do with Karla’s decision to join the partylist.

The fan group is not the buying the argument that Karla’s presence in the partylist will help Tingog change its mind and pave the way for it to vote yes for the renewal of ABS-CBN’s franchise if and when the network applies for a new one.

The question now is, are Kathryn and Daniel willing to withdraw their support for Karla and Tingog in favor of their fans who hadve been supporting them for many years?
