Jennifer P. Rendon - The Freeman

ILOILO CITY, Philippines — A gamefowl farm in Cabatuan, Iloilo lost around P300,000 after several heads of fightings cocks were killed and several others were injured.

It was already around 6:00 a.m. of August 22, 2018 when the caretaker arrived at the farm in Barangay Gaub and saw severely-battered chickens.

The farm is reportedly owned by Lorenzo Librando, Jr., also a resident of Cabatuan town. Its caretaker left at 8:00 in the evening of  Tuesday with the fighting cocks all in good condition.

Reports said the farm has more than 70 gamefowl heads. About 45 were either killed or injured. The 15 injured however are not also expected to survive. One of those that died was part of fighting-cock trio bought at P60,000.

Police Officer 2 Dennis Tiron, Cabatuan Police investigator, said that even chicks were not spared by the attack.

In a check made by personnel of the Department of Agriculture, it was likely that stray dogs carried the attack. “They based it on footprints seen all over the farm,” Tiron said.

It was estimated that at least three dogs were responsible for the attack. Around three weeks ago, fighting cocks were also pounced on in the nearby area. However, only three fell prey.
