25% of WV’s chiefs of police to be relieved

Jennifer P. Rendon - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  At least 36 out of 147 chiefs of police, or around 25 percent, in Western Visayas region, will be ousted from their respective posts reportedly due to “sub-par” performance, especially on anti-drug campaign.

Chief Superintendent John Bulalacao, Police Regional Office-6 director, said the Regional Oversight Committee on Evaluation of Performance is still finalizing the list. “Those who will be affected by the revamp will be known Monday (July 23),” he said.

This early, however, Bulalacao believed that the concerned police chiefs knew already who they are because “they knew for themselves that they did a poor performance,” due to their failure to stop the proliferation of drugs in their areas of jurisdiction.

Also, “they were not able to increase their efficiency in solving crimes. Some were recommended for relief by their provincial directors maybe because of their poor performance also,” he said, adding that those to be relieved will be assigned outside of their province.

But not all who will be relieved next week will be booted out from post because of poor performance. “‘Yung iba mapapasama sa relief na ito because they have reached the maximum number of tour of duty, which is two years,” Bulalacao said.

The PRO-6 top official cited though that the relief of personnel is a regular activity at the PNP with the aim of maintaining the efficiency of every member.

PRO-6 is now on the process of evaluating the performance of chiefs of police all over the region. “It’s not only illegal drugs but all aspect of police operations performance will be considered,” he said.

Bulalacao said they only took into consideration the performance since he assumed post last June 1.

In Iloilo province, reports said that at least 17 chiefs of police registered low performance in illegal drug operations. But not all of them might be relieved because others performed well in arresting wanted persons with high crime solution efficiency.
