Juancho R. Gallarde - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Negros Oriental governor is unfazed by reports his possible opponent in the next gubernatorial race is from the third district of the province.

Governor Roel Degamo is in fact, happy the name of former 3rd district representative and now mayor of Bayawan City, Henry Pryde Teves, came out as the possible contender.

The governor was informed that Teves had extended support to a number of candidates for barangay captain not just in his city, but even in other districts.

Degamo said Teves could be testing the waters in hoping he can also field a strong contender for the mayoralty position in Bayawan City against anybody. The name of Teves’ former liaison officer Jack Raymond surfaced as the possible mayoralty candidate in the city, according to Degamo’s camp.

Meanwhile, the governor made it clear he has not yet chosen any candidate to support for the Liga provincial federation election because a number of local government units have yet to conduct their respective municipal or city liga federation elections, and also for security reasons.

Degamo recalled that as the barangay elections was approaching many prospective barangay captains that he was supporting were either ambushed or harassed.

But definitely, the governor said he will be supporting a candidate for the provincial liga against the possible contender who is also from Bayawan whom he refused to name.
