Deficit spending (Listen, PBBM trolls)

READER’S VIEWS - The Freeman

Today, our government is spending money for its operation coming from borrowed funds.

We don’t have enough money to spend for programs to benefit the vulnerable sectors of our society because there is not much economic activity in the country where taxes can be collected.

Funds coming in are from our Overseas Filipino Workers and a few tourist. Our OFWs are actually the people who keeps our country alive and kicking.

We cannot rely on foreign businessmen to put their money here. No decent investor will ever spend his hard-earned money to do business here where the price of power (electricity) is the highest in this part of the world.

PBBM and his economic managers are wasting time, effort, and money inviting foreign investors to come to this country. We have to fix first our source of energy. Tap nuclear power and find oil in the vast expanse of our country (West Philippine Sea).

Meanwhile, our meager dollars are going out to import fuel, oil, food, and raw materials for our fledgling industries.

Actually our country has a rich source of income to collect. It only takes political will of PBBM to perform his duty and responsibility to let government work for the Filipino people.

1.) Collect overdue taxes from leaseholders of government lands such as fishponds, ranches, sugar plantations, banana and pineapple plantations, and forest lands (only a few Filipino families are enjoying and benefiting from the exploitation of these vast tracts of lands and they are not even paying their taxes).

2.) Collect the right taxes from importers. Our corrupt Customs officers are in the habit of lowering tax for imports for a fee.

3.) The same is being practiced by BIR tax collectors. Big companies and some smaller ones are not really paying the right taxes. Landowners are not also paying the right taxes.

There is so much money to collect in this country. In fact we don’t even need to borrow money, outside and inside, from lending institutions.

PBBM, the ball is your hands. You have to lead, which means you have to pay first what your family owes the government. I am referring to your unpaid estate taxes. - Ernesto Arcenas Jr.
