Photographs

ESSENCE - Ligaya Rabago-Visaya - The Freeman

We capture images of all conceivable celebrations in our lives with the simple click of our cameras, whenever and wherever we are. And the best way to keep them is to share them right away on Facebook, Twitter, or any other online site. Some people go to extremes, such as prioritizing pictures with food over praying. And why is this the case?

Our ability to capture noteworthy or otherwise meaningful moments takes a different turn for our children and even adults. This is due to technology and a fast-paced lifestyle. The beauty of waiting becomes difficult to comprehend. Our young people no longer see the sweetness at the end of each hardship.

There are also times when we know we will come to regret capturing anything. Especially when things in relationships go bad, or when we could have captured moments with our child before he went to live with our Lord. We could have captured each birthday celebration and placed them in a hard, tangible album to look back on when we are nostalgic, or bored.

Photographs play a vital role in everyone's life; they remind us of people, places, emotions, and tales from our past. They can assist us in determining who we are. Images are very significant for people who grew up in children's facilities; unfortunately, many of the photographs we take for granted do not exist for them.

In today's modern society, social media has increased the importance of photography even more. Consider the case of Facebook. The most popular activity is photo sharing. And, after all, why not? They are the most powerful fulfilling and entertaining way to express one's emotions. They allow us to express something that would otherwise be impossible to do with words.

In fact, photographs are so important in people's lives that when asked what they would save from a burning house, the majority of people will say their photo album or digital images.

They draw our attention like nothing else. So, let's put it this way. With each passing second, our minds become more fickle, and we begin to forget things. We can only record them through photographs. The best way to keep one's memories, ideas and feelings was, and will stay. They are, in reality, one's most valuable possessions.

As parents, we want to document each of our children's developmental milestones. Birthdays and academic achievements would be incomplete without photographs. And it's no surprise that Vice President Leni Robredo is overjoyed to have captured moments before and during her youngest daughter's graduation ceremony from the prestigious New York University. And posting photos on social media is simply another way for her to show how proud she is of her daughter.

Others, however, viewed it in a different light because they were envious. That they don't think it's necessary to make a big deal out of it. Someone who views it in this light cannot genuinely comprehend human behavior. A propensity based on the desire to preserve the memories of those we love, to save the riches of wonderful experiences with them.

Our treasured recollections with our loved ones are among the finest things in life. And when the day comes when some of them are no longer with us, our treasured photographs of them will be priceless.
