Bong Go's candidacy turning out to be good for Leni

Heaven has certain strange ways of punishing the wicked and making the good ones triumph once in a while. The unplanned and unexpected candidacy of senator Bong Go is a big blessing in disguise for Vice President Leni Robredo's chances to win over Bongbong Marcos.

If President Duterte keeps on attacking Bongbong, and the civil society keeps hounding Marcos for cancellation or disqualification, Leni can focus on talking to the people, and BBM will be distracted, defending himself against many court cases. Millions were surprised when president Duterte, while delivering an important speech in Mindoro aired nationwide, out of the blue just blurted out that there is one presidential candidate who is allegedly taking cocaine. He is supposedly an only son, spoiled by his parents. President Duterte admired his father but questioned the qualifications of this candidate. He asked very bluntly: What has this guy done as his contribution to nation-building?

Of course, those serious attacks do not refer to Ping Lacson. He is not a spoiled son. Not Isko, not Pacman, and certainly not Leni. And so, the people are confused. How could this happen? BBM is the presidential teammate of the president's daughter, Davao Mayor Inday Sara. What is this kind of gambit by the president? Is this really for real or just to confuse the enemy? But if you consider the fact that Bong Go, president Duterte's most beloved confidante and most trusted and favorite assistant, is gunning for the presidency, then you will understand that Malacañang really wants both Bong Go and Inday Sara to win. They are just using BBM to crack the solid north and make Sara win in Luzon courtesy of BBM.

In the meantime, Vice President Leni's stronghold in Bicol, southern Luzon, and the Visayas remains unencumbered. Let Isko demolish BBM's strength in Metro Manila and let Ping take away votes from BBM in Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal as well as in Bulacan, Pangasinan, and Nueva Ecija. And Pacman is taking votes away from Bong Go because the pambansang kamao is definitely more popular than Bong Go. Bong Go is only well known in Davao City. Speaker Bebot Alvarez is already against him. Therefore, the bottom line of all these is good news for Vice President Leni. Let Manong Rody relentlessly attack BBM without mercy, and Leni will just focus on her positive campaign. She is emerging as the good one surrounded by five male bullies, BBM, Ping, Isko, Pacman, and Bong Go.

The Pinoys love underdogs and she is the darling of the A and B crowd, the business community, and the Catholic Church. She is also the emerging favorite of the Muslim communities and civil society. The Bicolanos, southern Tagalogs, and the Visayans love Leni immensely. What matters most is that VP Leni is the best qualified, a lawyer, a human rights advocate, the most honest, and the one without skeletons in her closet. She does not take cocaine. She has no tax evasion problem, and she is a very good mom, a faithful Catholic and Christian, and a true friend.
