Ray of hope

READERS' VIEWS - Renester P. Suralta - The Freeman

The sudden, unprecedented spread of COVID-19 in the world has devastated the lives of millions of people and crushed their spirits. The world is unprepared for the monstrous impact of this human-induced disaster.

The rich and highly-advanced countries crumbled down. The domino effect is the economic crisis, unemployment, poverty, mental stress, physical illness, fear, anxiety, and death.

However, the discovery of the vaccine is a ray of hope to humanity. People have something new to look forward to then. Even if the vaccine doesn't provide 100% immunity and protection, it can guarantee minor infection and a high survival rate once hospitalized.

The abundance of vaccine supply may soon guarantee herd immunity in a matter of time. People should grab the opportunity to get vaccinated as quickly as possible while the free supply lasts.

Those who remain reluctant and undecided still have the time to reconsider their stand over the issue of vaccine adverse effects. Those who think they will turn into zombies after the injection should think again. The zombie apocalypse story is more of a fiction than reality.

Some people who have a personal vaccine choice should think twice because we live in a third-world country. We can't afford to buy expensive vaccines for now. We are currently dependent on what we can avail of in the international market and through donations. People should take advantage of the vaccine given for free. The race to herd immunity is more important than our right to choose what brand to inject into our bodies. By taking the necessary vaccine seriously, observing health safety protocol and standards regularly and, practicing a healthy lifestyle, herd immunity is not far-fetched.

As of September 22, 2021, the country has administered over 42.6 million doses, 23.2M first doses, and 19.3M second doses. The number is growing as many people are fully aware of its benefits over the risks. Don't hesitate to get inoculated at your local vaccination center now and be part of the solution, not the problem.
