PDP-Laban: The splitting of the atom, positive or negative?

WHAT MATTERS MOST - Atty. Josephus B. Jimenez - The Freeman

My science professor told me that every atom has a nucleus at the center, which is composed of neutrons and protons. Protons have positive charges, while neutrons have no charge at all. Surrounding the nucleus are the electrons with negative charges. When the neutron travels at the right speed and is hit in its core, the nucleus splits and the splitting releases tremendous energy. This process is called nuclear fission. This is what happened to PDP-Laban. It is experiencing a nuclear fission. The people are bewildered, confused, and bothered. But someone is orchestrating these dynamics of political fission, and I will explain why this is happening.

Let us mix science, politics, biblical traditions, and history. Let us start with the Bible, then trace the history of politics, then go back to science. In Genesis, Abraham, was told by his father to go to the land of Canaan with his wife Sara. He obeyed and there he begot Ishmael, son of Hagar, then Isaac, son of Sara. Ishmael and Isaac were the protons and electrons and the atom in the House of Abraham. Ishmael became the ancestor of the Arabs and the Palestinians, and Isaac, the father of Jacob who begot 12 sons, the 12 tribes of Israel. The 12 became the ancestors of the Jews, the chosen people. That was the first nuclear fission in biblical tradition. The house of Abraham became the source of three Abrahamic religions; Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.

Christianity experienced another split on July 16, 1054, when Michael Cerularius, Patriarch of Constantinople, was excommunicated by the Pope, thereby causing the "Great Schism" that created two largest denominations, the Roman Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox Churches. In 1517, Martin Luther attacked the corruptions of the Catholic Church when it sold indulgences, among other shenanigans of the clergy. He posted on the doors of the churches his 95 theses or challenges to debates on 95 propositions about Catholic dogma and practices. These became the foundations of Protestantism. Then, the Church of England was founded in 1534, after King Henry VIII failed to obtain a papal dispensation to divorce his Catholic wife, Queen Catherine of Aragon, to marry Anne Boleyn. Christianity experienced a series of schisms, splitting of the atoms, releasing tremendous energies.

In Philippine political history, the splitting of the atoms was foretold by Dr. Jose Rizal, when the educated Filipinos like the ilustrados, represented by Crisostomo Ibarra of Noli Me Tangere, were opposed to a premature revolution propagated by Elias, the filibuster in El Filibusterismo. The reformist was Rizal and the revolutionary was Bonifacio. Ibarra was Rizal and Elias was Bonifacio. The splitting of the Katipunan happened during the Tejeros Convention, when the Magdalo forces of Emilio Aguinaldo, from Cavite, ousted the founder, Andres Bonifacio of the Magdiwang from Tondo. Splitting is a process of growth. The Nacionalista Party founded by Quezon and Osmeña in 1935, was split when in the NP party convention in 1946, Osmeña won over Roxas. The latter bolted the NP and founded the Liberal Party. He won over Osmeña by the slimmest of margins. The LP also experienced too many schisms, foremost of which was the Cuenco wing and the Avelino wing, followed by too many splits.

Philippine political history is a saga of many schisms and splits. After the Marcos ouster, the UNIDO of Doy Laurel split when President Cory Aqunio ousted Laurel from the Cabinet. The forces of Cory also splintered when Cory opted to support a non-party member, FVR, over a loyal ally, Ramon Mitra. FVR won and Mitra died of a broken heart. FVR's vice president lost to Erap who succeeded him. The group of Erap disintegrated when GMA staged a power grab and had herself installed by the Supreme Court, while Erap was still president. GMA's reign was hounded by too many controversies, ranging from massive election cheating to alleged plunder for which she was placed under hospital arrest. Her party splintered and branched out too. It’s a long story and we have no space for it all.

Suffice it to say that when the atom splits, it releases tremendous energy. The recent splitting of PDP-Laban is going to cause an atomic bomb in 2022, and our contemporary political history will see another Hiroshima and Nagasaki in the political milieu. The proton will be Mayor Digong, the neutron will be Sara. And Manny Pacquiao will turn out to be the electron. Expect a big bang in 2022.
