Valentine’s date in the age of coronavirus

READERS' VIEWS - The Freeman

Valentine’s date during the pandemic is a very much challenging plan. But with the development of modern technology, nothing is impossible. Today, because of COVID-19, virtual dating is highly recommended. It is something new but worth trying. Probably because it's virtual it will be more or less romantic. However, it has economic and health benefits for all you know.

So how do you start your virtual Valentine’s date online? First, make sure you have enough load for an hours-long activity with a stable connection. You don't like your special and romantic moments to be spoiled by a lagging internet connection. Avoid embarrassing situations like your Zoom freezes while laughing and your date is staring at your awkward frozen face or your conversation breaks up every few minutes. If possible conduct your date in an area with Wi-Fi.

Second, plan your virtual date. You don't need to have a perfect plan but at least you have set things right in their proper place and time. If you just send a Zoom link without a plan most probably you will end up sitting in so many awkward silences, and neither of you deserves that. Prepare a private place in your home with proper ventilation and lighting. List down virtual date activities like sharing favorite songs, watch a movie, order the same restaurant and talk about real things and plans but avoid corny and controversial topics.

Third, dress properly and act naturally. You have to dress well according to the occasion but don't overdress yourself. Remember your attire speaks for yourself. You don't like to appear somebody with pajamas ready to sleep nor someone short of cloth to wear. Be natural online, don't get too excited and appear nervous. Speak naturally and look at the camera with keen interest and sincerity. Avoid annoying body language and vulgar verbal expression.

Finally, end up your virtual date with beautiful memories. I don’t mean virtual sex but anything worth remembering and looking forward to. Like sharing beautiful selfie photos, sharing original love quotes, and favorite love songs. Don’t forget to say thanks with honesty. And most of all the three most important beautiful words: “I love you” with virtual good night kiss.

The traditional giving of flowers and chocolates may be optional with the looming economic crisis. It is the thought that matters anyway. What is important is both of you are safe from virus infections. Now, are you ready for a virtual Valentine’s date?
