Cut his finger off

Alex Magno is correct. The good news is that Donald Trump will soon be out of the White House. The bad news is that it will not happen until about two weeks. And two weeks is a perilously long time for a powerful leader as unhinged as Donald Trump. There is no telling what the guy can do in two weeks. He can incinerate the earth with his finger.

 Okay, so maybe that stuff happens only in the movies. In fact, the specter is so horrifying even the movies have not actually gone as far as actually having someone push that darn button. Always the finger had been stayed at the precariously last moment by some positive and fortuitous twist as to save all of mankind from a fiery death.

But nobody ever considered, in reality or in the realm of possibilities, a creature like Donald Trump. Trump is a first of many kinds and I shudder to think that in such an all-embracing equation, he actually might be the first to push that button. Who knows but the creep could be considering doing just that right this very moment.

I know pushing the button may not be as easy as pablum, just like how they depict the despicable act in the movies. But if they can depict in the movies, then it should not be too hard either. I may be ignorant about these things. Maybe there are protocols that stand in the way between the finger and the button that guys like me writing from thousands of miles across the ocean are just not privileged to know about.

But then again, if nothing is impossible, then I guess the finger is still in the game and it becomes the duty of every sane, responsible, God-fearing person within an arm's length of Donald Trump's orbit to do his darned best to keep that finger nowhere near that button. If it so much as tries to quiver and twitch in that button's direction, then for the love of God break it.

Donald Trump cannot be allowed to do irreparable damage. He is the president of America which, as they say, when it sneezes the rest of the world catches cold. Put another way, anything that happens in America, the most influential country in the world, can have a profound and potentially lasting effect on the rest of the world.

Now there may not be much of the world left after the ravages of this pandemic. But surely there will be ample left to rebuild, redirect, and reacquire, with an aim and resolve to do better in a better world. There is a reason, after all, why so many of the young have been spared, that in their hands the future may rise again. Even Calvin realizes this and tells Hobbes the problem with the future is that it keeps turning into the present.

So call me preposterous, even ignorant. But Donald Trump must by all means have his finger as far away from that darned button as possible. The pandemic is enough trouble already. We cannot allow this overturned world to become even more topsy-turvy than it already is just because one damn ego cannot take one damn defeat. Even Calvin deserves a future beyond the confines of his strip. And that goes for Hobbes too, despite Trump's ego.
