Advance All Souls’ Day!

READER'S VIEWS - Edmer John Caballes - The Freeman

“Sometimes we see God’s message through a book, a person, social media, sickness or disease, or even through a painful struggle,” a priest said in his homily one morning in his mass in Carmelite Monastery.

Sometimes God will speak to us through a struggle though we claim it three times that we are faithful to Him. The message is not for us but for others through us. In happiness or sadness, in mourn or celebration, we can be His instruments. We are all a piece of Christ. That’s how I get it.

We become so busy with our own individual programmed reality that controls us to work hard day and night to give rewards to our needs and wants.  This is the other world of programming outside a computer when we can’t but simply be passive to work on our own end. Sometimes we become a puppet of our self. We’ve forgotten to see why do we exist in this world not alone. We don’t get it why do we have parents, why do we have friends and siblings, why do we meet come-and-go people, why do we meet strangers in the past, or why do we exist with others.

When we die, imagine our name on the ground with grass and filthy letters which gravestone be only remembered and be posted on social media in November. A lot of people who visit the cemetery don’t care about our name. Why should they? They don’t even have a single memory with us simply because we take no part in their lives. They will only remember people who become part of their journey. But now that we are still alive, what good contribution have we done to humanity or to our particular circle? What have we done to be remembered? However, many of us still don't get it yet. They are too concerned about their own agenda to survive alone, to get on the top alone. When they do good to others still they are after for themselves in return. We are all selfish. It's true. But how do we try to go beyond that tendency? How do we try to go beyond ourselves?

Yes, it feels good that someone or people remember us but there’s nothing more meaningful when they remember us beyond our face or our name. Sure enough, that would be a joy we could bring until the next world.  It would be a feeling of unselfishness when people remember the values we've shared, the time and care we've offered, or simply the presence we've shown.  Those kind actions mean so much to them.

People may also remember us for our great skills or the great job we do. May it be our leadership, may it be the justice we serve, may it be the happiness and laughter we’ve painted, may it be the beauty we’ve contributed, may it be the number of persons we’ve influenced. But in the end, on the last judgment, it’s between our true intention and Him, it is between our faith and Him, it’s between Him and what we did or did not. It’s between us as individuals and the creator regardless of who we are in the eyes of the people. That’s how I learn it from a friend who happens to also learn it from a great someone.  Live life but remember to leave something good and memorable. May it be your love, your care, life insurance, or wisdom. Simply, be an instrument. Advance All Souls Day!
