The Sotto Clan of legislators’ authored cities and municipalities (Part 2)

The Sotto Clan in different eras produced legislators. During the election of the first set of senators in 1916 there was Filemon Yap Sotto, after World War II there was the younger brother, Vicente Yap Sotto. A son of Vicente by the name of Cesar (his eldest child) became Assemblyman of Davao. His grandson and namesake, Vicente “Tito” III became senator after EDSA. The Sotto Clan had the privilege of sponsoring the creation of towns and conversion of towns into cities. Don Filemon Sotto became the godfather of the creation of the town of Sikatuna, Bohol. Cesar initiated the creation of the town of Tagum.

The third generation of the Sotto Clan of legislators, Vicente III, who was elected in 1992, reelected in 1998, 2010, and 2016 and selected by his peers in the House of Senate in 2018 as its Senate President authored the following bills which became laws concerning LGUs in Visayas and Mindanao:

In the 9th and 10th Congress (1992-1998)

Palawan:

RA 7879 An Act creating the Municipality of Sofronio Espanola in the Province of Palawan.

Davao:

RA 8472 An Act converting the Municipality of Tagum in the Province of Davao into a Component City to be known as City of Tagum.

RA 8471 An Act constituting the 3 Municipalities of Babak, Samal and Kaputian of Samal Island, Province of Davao into a Component City to be known as the Garden Island city of Samal.

RA 8473 An Act creating the Municipality of Braulio Dujali in the Province of Davao and for other purposes.

RA 8470 An Act creating the Province of Compostela from the Province of Davao del Norte and for other purposes.

Cotabato:

RA 8500 An Act converting the Municipality of Kidapawan into a Component City to be known as the City of Kidapawan.

Bukidnon:

RA 8490 An Act converting the Municipality of Malaybalay into a Component City to be known as the City of Malaybalay.

Caraga:

RA 7091 An Act creating Region XIII consisting of the four provinces of Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte and Surigao del Sur, amending for the purpose Presidential Decree No. 1, Chapter III, Article I, paragraph 3, modifying the Ordinance appended to the 1987 Constitution on the Composition of X and Region XI and for other purposes.
