Mend us with your love, Lord

ESSENCE - Ligaya Rabago-Visaya - The Freeman

Every so often we are afraid of many things for various reasons. We worry about what is going to happen because of some uncertainties. And since we don’t know of other aspects, or what we have is inadequate information. But nowadays information comes anytime from many sources. It is now a question of which or who is providing the correct information. As they appear to be plausible sources of information, some could lead us to miscalculation and so making wrong decisions.

The pandemic coronavirus, for instance, has caused many to panic, as alerts or news breaks bombard our Facebook walls and even in some legitimate media outlets, creating a panicked environment.

Then again, not playing it safe can likewise hurt high-risk populaces. While COVID-19 isn't perilous to most of individuals by far, for the older and individuals with certain underlying medical conditions the death rate could be high. In any case, solid people who are enticed to disregard rules for hygiene practices, social distancing or willful quarantine orders must realize that what may feel like the regular cold to them could represent a genuine risk to their neighbors. They should act as need be.

As urgent as such longer-term structural reforms are, for now, the primary response to the coronavirus outbreak will come at the community and individual levels. Perhaps it entails relatively small disruptions like scrapping travel plans and just as our Lenten penance is meant to deepen our relationship with God and our solidarity with all who suffer as the Lord did. We can allow these sacrifices and inconveniences in our daily lives to direct our prayers toward those who have died and their loved ones, our attention toward those who are ill or facing financial hardship and our actions toward strengthening the common good.

I would like invoke a prayer to our almighty God as we fight the spread of the virus:

Jesus Christ, you went through towns and villages "relieving each disease and illness." At your order, the sick were made well. Go to our aid now, amidst the worldwide spread of the coronavirus, that we may encounter your mending love.

Mend the individuals who are sick with the infection. May they recover their quality and well-being through quality clinical care. Recuperate us from our dread, which keeps countries from cooperating and neighbors from helping one another.

Mend us from our pride, which can make us claim invulnerability to a sickness that knows no borders. Jesus Christ, healer of all, remain close by right now vulnerability and distress. Be with the individuals who have kicked the bucket from the infection. May they be very still with you in your endless peace.

Be with the groups of the individuals who are wiped out or have passed on. As they worry and lament, guard them from sickness and gloom. May they know your peace.

Be with the specialists, attendants, scientists, and clinical experts who look to mend and help those affected and who put themselves in danger simultaneously. May they know your protection and harmony.

Be with the leaders of all nations. Give them the foreknowledge to act with noble cause and genuine concern for the prosperity of the individuals they are intended to serve. May they know your tranquility, as they cooperate to accomplish it on earth.

Whether we are home or abroad, surrounded by many people suffering from this illness or only a few, Jesus Christ, stay with us as we endure and mourn, persist and prepare. In place of our anxiety, give us your peace. Lord, heal us.
