Re-investigation opened

THAT DOES IT - Korina Sanchez - The Freeman

The Senate has enough information for President Duterte to decide on what to do with PNP chief Oscar Albayalde. This was Sen. Gordon's response to President Duterte needing "clear evidence" that Albayalde was involved in illegal drugs. Gordon is the chairman of the Blue Ribbon Committee investigating the "ninja cops" controversy. During two Senate hearings, Albayalde's alleged concern for "his men" or Police Major Baloyo's group surfaced. The senators saw this as inappropriate since Albayalde was their superior at the time. It was also evident that Baloyo was lying through his teeth. Obviously he was not thinking before showing up at the Senate. He did not realize how prepared the committee was for him. Maybe it's because he was confident of protection from the chief PNP and believes he would not be abandoned. Well "his immensity", as Sen. Gordon christened him, is now detained at the New Bilibid Prisons for contempt.

Albayalde himself recently had some encouragement in the form of a presidential statement. "I enjoin everyone to move on now that the President has spoken.” Oh, so because the president has spoken we should all just "move on"? So everyone should just stop talking about it? More evidence that these officials serve the president and not necessarily the people.

DOJ Sec. Guevarra has opened a new investigation into the "ninja cops" because of new evidence against them, obviously. I cannot help but think if PDEA director general Aaron Aquino and former CIDG chief and now Baguio mayor Benjamin Magalong did not speak out, this case would have been buried and forgotten. Albayalde would not be facing a controversy and probably an investigation - if Duterte was serious in saying so - and Baloyo and his men would just be living off their haul. Pretty obvious that Baloyo has been enjoying himself by the looks of things.

I wonder if Duterte knew about this case when he chose Albayalde as PNP chief since it concerned illegal drugs. I understand Albayalde was cleared but shouldn't he have undergone a more detailed vetting process before being chosen as PNP chief? Probably why Duterte is fiercely defending him is because he did choose him. Albayalde may have nothing to worry about since "Duterte has already spoken". I am almost certain that upon his retirement he will be given a position immediately. If the controversial Nicanor Faeldon was given several positions what more Albayalde.

On the other hand, I hope Baloyo and his group have everything to be afraid of. I will not accept that they come out of this investigation the same way they came in, demoted by one rank. With so many contradicting his version of that buy-bust operation in Mexico, Pampanga, in 2013, he shouldn't stand a chance. This is one way to show that this drug war is truly serious and not just a show being paid for by the blood of thousands.
