Bikoy

THAT DOES IT - Korina Sanchez - The Freeman

“Bikoy.” The now infamous teller of tales. The whistleblower turned accuser. This is Peter Joemel Advincula, the alleged person behind the hooded “Bikoy” string of videos on YouTube, where he exposed members of President Duterte’s family benefiting from the illegal drug trade. But now he is singing a different tune, this time accusing the opposition, particularly the Liberal Party and Sen. Trillanes as behind the videos where he was just a pawn.

Advincula recently came out of hiding and went to the Integrated Bar of the Philippines presumably for help and protection. He exposed how members of the first family, which includes now senator Bong Go, would benefit from illegal drugs in the hundreds of millions of pesos.

He would show accounts, amounts, coded names, even tattoos that would supposedly ascertain the person as a member of an elaborate syndicate. But then the IBP refused to give him the legal help he needed without first vetting all the information he divulged online.

This left him out in the open. Of course, the Palace wanted his head, or at least his arrest for accusing the first family. Perhaps when authorities were getting closer to capturing him, he surrenders and then starts to sing a different tune altogether.

What is hilarious is when all the videos came out and he was still anonymous, the Palace labeled him a peddler of lies and a scam artist. Now that he has surfaced and supposedly turned the tables on the opposition, the Palace believes he is telling truth. But he had more evidence, whether verified or not, to present against the first family than he now has to accuse the opposition. And yet the palace spokesperson has already warned Sen. Trillanes to brace himself for new arrests. Is this tantamount to marching orders for the courts?

These are so many questions that can be thrown at Bikoy. It turns out that this person has numerous cases filed against him. Senator Lacson, who was once chief of the PNP, has stated that he knows the so-called handlers of Advincula, sort of saying that this is what he does for the police. Defense Secretary Lorenzana warned not to be too hasty in believing everything this person is saying because he seems to be constantly changing his story only to save himself.

He is currently out on bail, but surely under the watchful eye of the administration. He is another weapon against the known oppositionists, who have all denied even knowing Advincula least of all talking to him. But now the Palace supports his statements, verified or not. It is interesting to see how this new drama unfolds, now that Bikoy has revealed himself, and has placed his life in the hands of the government he initially accused of crimes no less than the president hates.
