Another tanimbala in NAIA?

SHOOTING STRAIGHT - Bobit Avila - The Freeman

For our special presentation on our talkshow Straight from the Sky, allow me to bring to your television screens the footage that I took last September when I visited Rome. We walked around the inner city of Rome and took the hop-on/hop-off bus, which has so many stops around the Eternal City. But on our last day we decided the hop-on/hop-off would just take too much time. So we took a Mercedes Benz van driven by Sergio to bring us around Rome, and it was truly worth paying €140 for four hours because Sergio parked the van less than a five-minute walk to all the tourist sites we asked him to drive to.

It was indeed a fun final day in Rome and our driver Sergio brought us to a hill not far from St. Peter's Square, and we got a helicopter view of Rome. It was a fabulous time for us to go around Rome to enjoy our last day. So watch this terrific travelogue of Rome on SkyCable's channel 53 at 8 p.m. with replays on Wednesday and Saturday same time and channel. We also have replays on MyTV's channel 30 at 9 p.m. Monday and at 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. on Wednesday and Friday.

Today I'd like to greet my eldest daughter, Dr. Frances "Fara" Angelique R. Avila-Tequillo on her nth birthday. It was timely that her birthday came a day after Father's Day. Fara is my firstborn. She got married to Atty. Jennoh Tequillo and gave him five children; Miko, Keena, Jenna, Chino, and Sachiko Valery. They are my family as my second daughter Katrina and my son Jesus Valeriano (JV) are not yet married. But they are most precious to me and my wife, Jessica and the whole family!

Did you read that report that an average of one motorcycle is stolen every day in Central Visayas according to an official of the Highway Patrol Group-7? This was reported by Senior Inspector Michael Gingoyon who said that of the 30 cases recorded each month, only 11 are solved. I have no doubt that these are small motorcycles which are found almost everywhere.

This is one of the major reasons why we have no "rent-a-bike" here because more often than not, the rented bike is never returned to its rightful owner. But as the HPG-7 reported, there are three modus operandi that motorcycle thieves employ and one of the most commonly used in Cebu City is stealing a motorcycle after it has been parked by the owner. So be careful out there.

I was in Manila for the IMG Convention at the SMX and IMG has gotten so huge, they really need something bigger than the SMX. While in Manila, there were two incidents that happened at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) last Friday. First was a report that Mr. Alvin Malimban was arrested upon arriving at NAIA from Saudi Arabia for allegedly cracking a bomb joke. This complaint was filed by a PAL flight attendant who refused to give him a third glass of wine, hence he cracked a bomb joke! Stupid!

He is being held at the airport police headquarters after charges of unjust vexation, alarm and scandal, and violation of Presidential Decree 1727, the anti-bomb joke law, were filed against him before the Pasay City prosecutor's office. This is something that passengers ought to know. In these times, you cannot and should not crack any bomb jokes. Now his wife and family are offering an apology for his cracking that joke, something that he shouldn't have done in the first place.

In another incident, which was featured in a Facebook page, Kristine Bumanglag-Moran said that she was accused of having a 9mm bullet in her bag and accused one of the security officers of planting that bullet. She was furious that this happened to her and claimed "tanim bala is real." This incident was recorded and the bullet confiscated while she was not apprehended, unlike what happened in the past.
