Church vs state
Dear Catholic Bishops,
You urge PNoy to apologize for the Mamasapano tragedy as a mark of humility. The ones who should be coaxed to this virtue you demand from him are, I humbly submit, yourselves.
You're so mercilessly high handed in castigating this straight shooting gift of a president of a corrupt nation where almost everybody is purchasable where no less than two former presidents have been indicted with plunder. You don't even give recognition to the existing fact that this president has yet to be charged with stealing a peso from the public purse. Give him his due accolade instead of suggesting the preposterous notion of having him step down for not apologizing.
As the Palace spokesman Mr. Lacienda said, he's not culpable for the tactical mistakes of the armed forces though under his command. He's in charge of policy as chief executive. He has given adequate instructions to the officers who were supposed to get them. Unfortunately there was a lack of coordination in the application of his instructions.
Please consider this observation: As policy makers of the persisting problem of sex abuse perpetrated by some of your priests operating under your command, have you humbly apologized to your flock for the blatant violations against your vulnerable members. I don't read anywhere about PNoy overstepping his presidential position demanding you apologize or give up your scepters for miscarriage of your policy?
You didn't apologize and like PNoy shouldn't because as has been said you and PNoy in your respective separate jurisdictions are in charge of policy. Not the day to day scrutiny of abusive or fornicating priests violating their vows in your case. Neither is PNoy to be faulted for the strategy for his officers had to decide on or alter at the last minute in the challenged area.
On a related matter of church and state disagreement. His position on the reproductive bill is an enlightened one. I think you'd have a right to oppose and denigrate his government's stance on birth control only if you do something about the desperate poverty of a nation whose resources are obviously not enough to support the needy ever increasing in large numbers because of lack of birth control alternatives to what the Catholic Church upholds.
In the interest of fairness,
