Batch 2004 and 2018 remain unbeaten in SHAABAA Season 28
CEBU, Philippines — With perfect records, the ‘04 The Win Batch 2004 and the Xchange Forex Batch 2018 stayed on top of the heap in their respective divisions in the Sacred Heart Ateneo Alumni Basketball Athletic Association (SHAABAA) Season 28 on Wednesday, June 11, at the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) Magis Eagles Arena in Barangay Canduman, Mandaue City.
Ervin Lopena delivered a double-double of 19 points and 15 rebounds with three assists while Christopher Consunji added 16 points and four rebounds as Batch 2004 outclassed Subtero Batch 2006, 73-63, to solidify their hold of the Division B lead with an unblemished 6-0 slate.
Ricardo Pepito and Kyle Valmoria combined for 21 points, 10 rebounds and six assists for Batch 2004, which at one point led by 17 points, 58-41, in the wire-to-wire victory.
Mark Blanco posted 18 points, eight rebounds, two assists and two steals while Mikey Cabahug had a double-double of 15 points and 10 boards with two assists and two steals but to no avail as Batch 2006 fell to 4-2.
In other Division B games, Aaron Uy fired 23 points with six rebounds and three steals and Efren Sanchez added 12 points and 11 rebounds as the Insular Square Batch 2005 improved to 4-1 with a 79-59 thrashing of the Magis Medical Fund, while Niel Benedicto bagged 13 points with seven rebounds and two steals as Knox Steel Batch 2007 pummeled the 2kcares.org, 70-32, to go 3-2 in a tie with the Onses Batch 2011.
The Onses nailed their third win at the expense of Core Pacific Group, 67-62, thanks to the scintillating 31-point show of Karlo Sibi, who also had six rebounds and five steals while shooting a spectacular 11-of-19 from the field including three conversions from beyond the arc.
In a duel of Batch 2012 teams, Aaron Baldwin Sing scored 19 points while Alexter Dan Tecson and Julius Cadavis connived for 26 points as Harley Davidson trounced the Golden Dragons, 82-47, to even its mark at 3-3.
In the lone Division C match, the pace-setting Batch 2018 produced a balanced offensive performance led by Eroll Pastor with 18 points, 11 rebounds and two assists to roll past Rufrance LPG and Check Technologies Batch 2025, 85-79, and stretch their hot streak to 4-0.
Joshua Vincent Mah also tallied 18 markers spiked with four rebounds, six assists and five steals, while Xavier Tarriman and Lyder Kent Canieso sizzled with 32 points and 20 rebounds in between them to help Batch 2018 overcome the 32-point explosion of Batch 2025’s Ben Ong.
