Giannis and KD rumors
For three straight seasons, the Milwaukee Bucks were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs. Then Damian Lillard, Giannis Antetokounmpo’s scoring partner, tore his left Achilles tendon and with an unclear recovery timeline, he could be unavailable next season.
One of the league’s top long-range shooters, Lillard averaged 24.9 points this season and was instrumental in helping the Bucks win the NBA Cup in 2024.
There will be uncertainty in Milwaukee especially with the rumors that Giannis, as per reports, is “open minded” about playing for another team. It’s a possibility as the team, having one of the oldest rosters in the league, was amiss in surrounding the Greek Freak with superior talent since they won the NBA championship in 2021.
At 30-years old, Giannis is in his prime and all the 29 teams will be assembling their best trade package to snatch Giannis. But unless he forces the team to trade him, the Bucks most likely will keep him. The 2025-2026 season will decide if Giannis stays put or changes zip codes.
Over at the West, the Phoenix Suns had once again underperformed despite the big three of Kevin Durant, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal.
Durant could be moved next season as he reportedly is interested in playing in Houston, but he would be an odd fit to the Rockets’ lineup. Reports also say that the team is hesitant as they don’t want to break up one of the NBA’s better young core for an aging KD who will be 37 years old when the next season starts. As the saying goes, why fix it when it’s not broken.
KD, despite nearing 40, remains one of the league’s efficient shooters averaging 26.6 points for the Suns this season. Most definitely, Durant can help Houston’s title aspirations which they last had in 1995. Are the Rockets willing to break up their roster to accommodate KD?
Besides looking forward to this year’s NBA Rookie Draft, the question whether Giannis and KD stays or move will be addressed.
