Bogo City FC to host the biggest football festival in northern Cebu

CEBU, Philippines —  Bogo City FC will be staging what is by far the biggest football festival in northern Cebu on May 17–18.

Billed as the 1st Fiesta Copa Football Festival, over 2,000 booters from Cebu, Bacolod, and Masbate will be seeing action in the two-day tilt that is sanctioned by the Cebu Regional Football Association (CRFA).

“We came up with this tournament kay wala paman gyud na-introduce ang football as grassroots sports in the northern part of Cebu,” said Lowell Ferrer, who spearheads the historic event together with his Bogo City FC co-founders JR Aninipoc and Shero John Maceda. “We want to bring the best teams from the whole of Cebu including teams from other provinces to further promote this beautiful game.”

Aside from the hosts, the other participating teams include the Azkals Cebu, Ateneo de Cebu, Barili FC, Bato Spartans FC, Bibiana Mercado Integrated School (BMIS)-Danao, Cebu United FC, CFC Academy, Conquistadores FC, Danao City FC, DB Magone, Don Bosco FC, Giuseppe FC, Huna FC, La Horse, Lapu Lapu City Heroes, Lost Boyz FC, Madridejos FC, and Opon FC.

Also set to compete are the Rongcales Futbolitos, San Roque FC, Sporting FC, Sugbo Calidad FC,

Toledo City FC, University of San Carlos (USC), Philippine Football Federation (PFF)-Center of Development, Buklod FC and Legacy FC of Bacolod, and Cataingan FC, Daemon FT, and Jaguars FC of Masbate.

The categories to be contested are the U8, U10, U12, U14, U15, U16, U18, Football Moms, 38 Above and men’s open.

“One of the highlights of the tournament is the PFF-Center of Development program where U14 players (born 2011-2012) from selected clubs compete in a bid to reinvigorate the country’s youth development program and to dentify and develop the next generation of national team players,” Ferrer shared.

Ferrer thanked the Bogo City LGU headed by mayor Carlo Martinez for making it all happen.

“Mapasalamaton kaayo mi sa City Government of Bogo and the Executive Committee kay kining tanan dili ma-materialize kung wala ang ilang full support,” Ferrer ended.
