Tapales’ WBC title fight moved to April 27 in Gensan
CEBU, Philippines — The World Boxing Council (WBC) International Silver super bantamweight title showdown between former two-division world champion Marlon “Nightmare” Tapales and Indonesian knockout artist Jon Jon Jet has been rescheduled to a new date and location.
Originally set to be held in Cambodia on April 14, the event will now take place on April 27 at Venue 88 in General Santos City.
“I’m very thrilled to be fighting back home again in Gensan. It’s been five years since I fought here, and I’ll make sure to give a great fight,” said Tapales, who fights out of Sanman Gym.
Tapales sports a 39-4 record spiked with 20KOs, while Jon Jon Jet holds a 15-1 slate with 12KOs.
“It’s really good to see Marlon Tapales fighting back here in Gensan before he competes again in the US at the end of this year hopefully for a world title,” said Sanman Boxing CEO Jim Claude Manangquil.
Before Tapales will tackle Jon Jon Jet, his stablemate Joey “The Babyface” Canoy (23-5-2, 14KOs) will showcase his punching skills against Vietnamese brawler Minh Phat Sam (10-5, 8KOs) for the WBC International minimumweight belt.
