Benedict Chua and son Andre doubly happy on Father’s Day

CEBU, Philippines — Cebuano basketball patron Benedict Chua and his son Andre celebrated Father’s Day in a unique way last Sunday - on the hardcourt.

And the Chuas were doubly happy as they both registered double-doubles in guiding their respective teams to victory.

The elder Chua displayed all-around brilliance as Yangtze Ice broke its cold start with a 69-62 beating of Magis Medical Fund in the Sacred Heart Ateneo Alumni Basketball Athletic Association (SHAABAA) Season 27 at the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) Magis Eagles Arena in Barangay Canduman, Mandaue City over the weekend.

Chua, an esteemed sportsman who once served as president of the now defunct Mandaue Industrial Commercial Athletic Association (MICAA), delivered a double-double performance of 18 points and 10 rebounds as Yangtze Ice finally barged into the win column after back-to-back setbacks.

Shooting a spectacular 8-of-12 from the field, Chua added three assists, two steals, and two blocks to help Yangtze Ice snap out of its two-game jinx.

Chua’s son and namesake Benedict Andre caught part of the spotlight.

Andre, a champion player of the SHS-AdC Magis Eagles in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) during his high school days, also produced twin figures with 12 points and 10 rebounds that went along with three assists and two steals as Forex Xchange Batch 2018 hammered Global Star Motors Batch 2020, 78-54, to even its record at 2-2.

Like father, like son indeed. — (FREEMAN)
